New Alaskans Hub
Feasibility Study
A project of Alaska Literacy Program
A project of Alaska Literacy Program
This project had 5 main takeaways:
The community envisions a Welcome Hub that has a beautiful physical space with many amenities for users, offering value as a centralized resource for New Alaskans.
The New Alaskan experience is characterized by fragmented support systems and significant barriers to integration.
New Alaskans significantly contribute to Alaska‘s economy, but their skills are underutilized.
There is a clear need for improved coordination and targeted support services for New Alaskans.
While the big goal is the physical co-location of shared services for New Alaskans, a phased approach is necessary and the near-term co-location of key partners is likely beneficial.
• Sustainable funding
• Accessible by public transportation
• Navigators/Case Managers
• Accessibility (hours, interpreters, etc.)
• Focused purpose and audience
• Childcare
• Security
Recommendations for a "New Alaskans Hub" include:
Create a paid position to coordinate the coalition and strengthen partnerships.
Strengthen collaboration and partnership among existing organizations by coordinating regular meetings and communication.
Implement pop-up service centers at accessible locations, like libraries, to gather data on needs and test how co-location can improve access and connection.
